No.19  Mario Götze, comes as Joker late in the game...

...and Super Mario saved the day with the goal in the 113. Minute!

I don't really care today what papers write about our team or our country!
We won! We're happy!
That's all that matters right now!
We're proud of our team and we celebrate them!

It's a German Thing...Soccer!

World Cup 2014 in Brazil

Brazil 1 - 7 Germany

"The final score was Germany 7, Brazil 1. It felt like Germany 70, Brazil 1. By the end, the Germans were barely celebrating their goals anymore" - New York Times

I feel truly sorry for Brazil's loss and I actually felt terrible and had tears in my eyes when I heard about David Luiz' apology to the Brazilian people.

“I just wanted to give joy to the people who suffer so much. Unfortunately we could not, sorry everyone, all Brazilians. I just wanted to see people smiling. Everyone knows how important it was for me. I wanted to see everyone happy. [Germany] were better prepared. It is a day of great sadness and a lot of learning too.”

But that doesn't change the fact that Germany won and like Luiz said himself: we won well-deserved, because we played better in this game. Although I have to admit, I wished we hadn't crushed Brazil like that.

But we won for a reason and the reason is pretty simple. Soccer is definately a German thing:

We love our soccer just as Americans love their football, because we're pretty good at it. Our team ranks as favourite on an international basis. In 2013 Manuel Neuer, the German goal keeper, was voted World's Best Goal Keeper by experts from 70 different countries. We were world champions in the years 1954, 1974, 1990, Vice-World Champions in 1966, 1982, 1986, 2002 and we came in third place in 1934, 1970, 2006, 2010. We have great tactics and it sometimes feels like the players are one mind which is absolutely impressive.

The German goal scorers for World Cup 2014 are:
Thomas Müller (5 goals), Mats Hummels (2 goals), André Schürrle (3 goals), Sami Khedira (1 goal), Mesut Özil (1 goal), Toni Kroos (2 goals), Miroslav Klose (2 goals), Mario Götze (1 goal).

But we do love it for a whole different reason. It might seem weird, but we rarely can be "proud" of our country without getting associated directly with the Nazis. Which is even more sad, considering that our generation has nothing to do with what the nazis did at all (If you don't believe me, just google a little bit: They call our win against Brazil a "Blitzkrieg". Seriously? A Nazi war term, just because we won high?).
We hate and fight discrimination and injustice. We have a lot to be proud of: Our country's a democracy. We are a economically stable nation with a good health and social system. We are hard working and honest people. We might seem a little cold sometimes, but that's just because we need to warm up to the people around us. We are kind people and if you got to know us and get a true German friend, you can be sure that we protect and care for what we love and cherish. We will stand by your side.
I am German myself. So maybe this is the only time I can say this out loud:

I am proud to be German.
I'm proud of my country and proud of my team!
Germany, I truly believe you guys can win the World Cup 2014!
And I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart!
You have no idea how much it means to the people in Germany
to see you win game after game in the World Cup!

But even if you lose (you won't, but even if you do), you can be still be proud of yourselves!

Thank you for keeping us standing tall!

Ich bedanke mich bei einem so tollen Team!
Wir sind stolz auf euch!
(Btw: Manuel Neuer, Miroslav Klose, Thomas Müller and Philipp Lahm are my all time favourites! )
